ART STATEMENT

" The process of creation is integral to my art, with each piece evolving through a dynamic interplay of sculpture, printmaking, drawing, found objects, and painting. This deliberate and intuitive approach allows me to engage in a contemplative conversation with the work as it evolves and changes. I work with different styles and techniques concurrently to cultivate a visual narrative that expresses my values and internal dialogues.

Central to my portfolio is a commitment to nature, the environment, and the human role in it which serve as a visual and abstract language to communicate. I am intrigued by the power of art to dig deeper into our subconscious minds to bring to surface these aspects of reality that are ignored or overlooked in order to confront them and find a healthier connection with nature and the environment."

RÉSUMÉ

"Elizabeth McAlpin explores almost every technique available to her while addressing environmental concerns. By using different materials she produces works on paper that fall across a wide scope and spectrum. Some of her pieces develop through unconventional collage techniques. These inhabit a surrealist mindset but also explore anatomical studies with its use of hands and other isolated body parts. The accompanying images of wind or electricity suggest the precarious situation our environment is in. A balance that is in our hands to decide. More painterly pieces use an intaglio technique to produce vignettes which recall icebergs or oceans. Again perhaps commenting on their fragility."
